Steve’s Thoughts: What a week it’s been for this one; announced as a feature title at this year’s TIFF, and not 24 hours ago images surfaced showing a first look at some of the leads (and there are plenty. But now we get nearly 6 minutes in trailer form for the new from from the filmmakers of The Matrix Trilogy and Run Lola Run. Check out this cast run down: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant. Crazy right? Based on the 2004 novel of the same name, the scope we see in this epic clip tells me they’re swinging for the fences and the Wachowskis have spared no expense. Word is the film clocks in at over 160 minutes, and with the glimpse we see at how many story lines and set pieces/time periods we’re going to be exposed to, I have to wonder how it’s going to all play out. Too long maybe? Too much going on? Mark this as a “must see” for the sole experience of its scope, but also as a “beware” just in case it hurts your brain in the process of trying to keep up.
