Steve’s Thoughts: Adam DeVine, Rebel Wilson, Jason Moore – all names most people know nothing about. But those three names look to be the saving grace for this Glee-inspired comedy. Adam is a gem on Workaholics, Rebel was a standout in Bridesmaids, and Jason is the man behind Avenue Q; all pieces that I adore. Before playing the trailer, I was like, “meh!” After playing the trailer, I was like, “yeah!” Pitch Perfect seems to have enough edge, and out-of-the-box humor styling, to take it beyond the cookie cutter feeling of films from this mold. With shows like Glee, The Voice, The Sing-Off and American Idol being staples of U.S. television, this movie might just tap in to the mainstream’s renewed interest in covers and mash-ups to push this comedy in to the black.
